Andy is the founder and lead instructor at Advance Driver Training, a premier driving school based in Cairns, Queensland. With over 20 years of experience in driver education and a deep passion for road safety, Andy is dedicated to equipping learners with the skills and confidence they need to become proficient, responsible drivers.

Professional Background

Originally from the UK, Andy began his career in driver training & assessment as a Paramedic Instructor within the NHS supervising and assessing baby Paramedics during their first exposures to emergency driving.

He has the tools to teach you to be safe whenever you are behind the wheel, whatever the circumstances.

Utilizing techniques such as self critiquing rather than the old school ‘do as I say’ method, students enjoy a more relaxed teaching style and a more immersive/productive learning experience. with a strong commitment to improving road safety and fostering responsible driving habits. His extensive experience in the field includes defensive driving, contingency planning and dealing with high pressure situations.

As the driving force behind Advance Driver Training, Andy has built a reputation for excellence, providing high-quality instruction that combines practical skills with theoretical knowledge. His approach to driver education emphasizes safety, confidence, and mastery of driving techniques, ensuring that each student is well-prepared for the challenges of the road and the challenges some Cairns drives present us with on the road!

Andy believes that effective driver training goes beyond simply passing a test; it's about preparing individuals for real-world driving scenarios. His teaching philosophy centers around personalized instruction tailored to each student’s needs, creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Collaboration with PCYC

In addition to his role at Advance Driver Training, Andy collaborates with the Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) at Cairns, Edmonton, Yarrabah and Mossman. In this capacity, he is involved in assessing and training their driving mentors and students . His work with PCYC focuses on enhancing the skills and effectiveness of driving mentors and providing valuable training for their students, further promoting road safety and responsible driving within the community.
